The Serve-a-meal project where our members prepare and distribute food, entered its 10th year, making it a decade of feeding the underprivileged in Singapore. More than 10,000 vegetarian meals are prepared and distributed yearly, to the old, sick, poor and needy in Woodlands and Jurong with the help of the Sri Arasakesari Temple and Bo Tien Temple in Woodlands and Taman Jurong respectively.
Serving the world with love and cooperation, you will find your own true self. As you help those in need, selfishness will fall away, and without even noticing you will find your own fulfillment.
Ämma says “Let our heart expand and feel the pain of the world. Let the burning desire to help the world, and bring solace to it, dawn within you.”
On the 3rd Saturday of every month, volunteers from the Society visit the Meranti Home at Pelangi Village to reach out to those less fortunate, and to provide selfless service and companionship.
Our volunteers spend about 2 to 3 hours with the residents, conducting simple activities that involve conversation, group interaction, music, games, physical exercise and art therapy. Additional activities include the celebration of Singapore festivals and excursions.
During Amma’s Programmes, the Society provides the Amrita Bursary Award of $150 each, to 50 deserving secondary school students in Singapore. The bursary recipients comprise students who are sitting for their ‘N ’or ‘O’ level examinations.
